Taking Stock

Been taking a good look at all the Season Location posts and seeing what needs attention. Sadly, a good portion of the posts are way out of date, have missing info., and too-small caps. All of this will need to be fixed BEFORE I can properly make my Area Location+ posts.

+ Note: Area Location posts will be a series of posts based on the various areas (Vancouver & beyond). Much like is already available with the Google Maps. There will also be separate lists for Riverview, the Watchman Set, & the Back 40 Dog Park. These Area Location posts will be ideal for people who actually hunt down & visit the locations in & around Vancouver, BC. ;)

The Run-Down:
* Seasons 1-8: Need to be thoroughly updated w/bigger caps, missing locations, & Google Map coordinates.
* Season 7 & 8: Need nearly all of the caps/images transferred to SlickPic & linked from there.
* Season 9: Needs new map images.
* Seasons 10 & 11: Needs new map images & missing Google Map coordinates.
* Season 12: Needs missing Google Map coordinates.
* Season 13: Needs missing Google Map coordinates.

Yep, that's a lot of work. And then there's updating the Google Map info.: Removing all the locations that no longer exist and adding in a bunch of missing locations at Riverview & the Back 40 Dog Park. Phew!

My hope is to continue working on this overhaul of the site throughout the rest of this year & the next so that by the time I need to add the Season 15 Locations in (Fall of 2020), that I'll have everything else fixed & updated properly. Don't know if I'll get it all done, but that's the goal.

I've never made a post asking for help in finding locations before, but I know there's others (especially those who live in the Vancouver area) who are bound to know or recognize places that I don't. There's only so far one can get with Google Maps.

Update: Season 14 Locations

My apologies for the long silence here at the comm.
With VanCon fast approaching (back at it's old August weekend instead of last year's October dates) I've been rushing to update the site with the Locations for Season 14. Unfortunately, I got way behind real fast & it's been a struggle to recover. Now, with only a couple of weeks until the convention, the pressure is really on!

Thankfully, I have made some amazing progress on the S14 Locations over the past several weeks.

Here's what is done:
- Capped Season 14 Locations
- Fixed & Uploaded caps to SlickPic
- Gathered S14 Location & Filming Tweets to Wakelet account
- Transferred info. for S14 filming dates & Locations to my LJ's Season 14 Sticky Post

Here's what's left to be done:
- Make LJ posts here for Season 14 Locations (hopefully w/only 20 episodes, I can keep the post # to 2 or 3 this time)
- Add Season 14 Locations to my Google Maps
- Make PDFs of the S14 LJ posts & upload to MediaFire (this might not happen in time for the con like last year, sorry!)

I had hoped to get the Season 14 update all done by Sunday - August 18th for those arriving early to Vancouver ahead of the convention. However, I probably will not make that deadline. I'll try, but I'm making no guarantees. Instead, my backup deadline will be Wednesday - August 21st.

Catch up & Progress

Felt it was past time I let you all know what's going on around here with [livejournal.com profile] spn_locations.

♦ Thankfully, PhotoBucket got a new CEO who restored all the users previously MIA images everywhere online. Yay! So that means all my old images for the Season 7 posts are back and visible again. I'd gone in and replaced all the Season 1-6 post images with links from SlickPic, but I never got to Season 7. So that's one less task for me to worry about. Eventually, I'll probably still link the Season 7 images from SlickPic, but I feel there's no rush at the moment.

For future reference, all images on this community are now linked from my SlickPic account and have been since Season 8 was put in.

♦ I had big plans to finally add in the Area Location Lists to the comm this summer, but once I actually got to looking at them, I realized they were no where near ready for posting yet. *sigh* It's frustrating...to want to get this stuff done, but to either not have the time or the internet data to fully tackle the tasks.

I had also hoped to have a Lost Locations List (sites that are no loner around) up on the comm, but again...best laid plans and valuable internet data that gets used oh, so fast on other tasks. Someday it will happen. I promise.

♦ It felt weird not having to get the new Season 13 Locations done by the end of August for VanCon. With them moving the con to October, it's given me more time, which has been a blessing and a curse. lol

I probably didn't start on Season 13 as soon as I should have (nothing new there), but at the moment, even though I have nothing to show for my progress on the comm, I'm not worried about where I'm at either. Only a little over a month until VanCon? No problem! LOL

♦ That being said...here's where I'm at with the Season 13 Locations.

- I've capped Locations for Eps 13x01 through 13x18. Only 5 eps to go! I should have those done in another day or 2.
- I nearly have all the Twitter info. about filming S13 added to my LJ's sticky post.

♦ So what is left to do?

- Sort/Delete process for each episode's Location Caps.
- Fix each episode's Location caps and upload to SlickPic.
- Start making the list of Locations, adding in exact addresses, possibly map images to the comm.
- Add all locations to Google Maps.

Easy to do in 4 weeks, right? :P
