It was on this date in 2012 that I moved my SPN Locations List from my journal to be it's own community here on LJ.

I want to thank you all for sticking around (even with the lack of updates) and using the information here. It's always great to know that the list is useful to people whether they're simply curious where a certain scene was filmed or are hunting down locations when they visit the Vancouver area.

A task this big (and now 15 years-worth long) cannot be done alone. I'd also like to express my gratitude to all of those who have helped me find various locations over the years. So many locations couldn't have been found or narrowed down without your invaluable assistance. You all rock! :D

Hard to believe this list of SPN Locations has reached such a milestone, but here it is.

This LJ comm began in 2012, but before that I kept this list on my own journal.




It really all began with me just collecting little bits of filming info. I could find online way back in July of 2007. Whenever I found something about when & where they were filming, I'd post about it. After a while, I got a few people who would clue me in about spots they filmed at, too. Eventually, I got the idea to make an actual list, episode by episode & season by season. I made the post of Season 1 Locations on this day back in 2009, so I consider it the true beginnings of what I like to call "The Locations List".

And from that small beginning, the list has grown with each passing season of SPN.
So many people have helped me along the way, from my volunteers, to other sites, to people who just wanted to contribute information they had. I'm so proud that this list has helped so many people find their favorite SPN "moments" - to go to a spot and know the boys were there, to sit where they sat or stand where they stood. I know for myself that it is a thrilling feeling!

I want to thank all of you who have left me comments, or sent me messages, or even thanked me in person when I was in Vancouver over the years. There is nothing that makes me happier than to know this site has helped others! :D

Even though the show will be ending after Season 15, I hope this place will continue to be a great resource for fans of the show, whether they go to Vancouver to hunt down the locations or just have a curiosity if a place in an episode was a real spot or not.

Happened to discover a weird LJ Layout issue tonight.
Thankfully, it's only showing up on the Chrome & Opera Beta browsers (at least for me).
I checked it out in Safari, Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi, & Yandex browsers and everything looks fine on them.

The issue is having thumbnail images in an LJ post that are no longer nice and neat within the confines of the layout, but spill over in a horizontal line to the right, causing a scroll bar to appear at the bottom of the page.

Like this...Ugh!



So I apologize to anyone looking at my big image posts on my LJ or hurtwinchesters or spn_locations on the Chrome or Opera Beta browsers. Hopefully, they will update their code or whatever & those thumbnails will get back in line!

Until then, I hope you use other browsers to view LJ that don't have this issue! :)

Felt it was past time I let you all know what's going on around here with spn_locations.

♦ Thankfully, PhotoBucket got a new CEO who restored all the users previously MIA images everywhere online. Yay! So that means all my old images for the Season 7 posts are back and visible again. I'd gone in and replaced all the Season 1-6 post images with links from SlickPic, but I never got to Season 7. So that's one less task for me to worry about. Eventually, I'll probably still link the Season 7 images from SlickPic, but I feel there's no rush at the moment.

For future reference, all images on this community are now linked from my SlickPic account and have been since Season 8 was put in.

♦ I had big plans to finally add in the Area Location Lists to the comm this summer, but once I actually got to looking at them, I realized they were no where near ready for posting yet. *sigh* It's frustrating...to want to get this stuff done, but to either not have the time or the internet data to fully tackle the tasks.

I had also hoped to have a Lost Locations List (sites that are no loner around) up on the comm, but again...best laid plans and valuable internet data that gets used oh, so fast on other tasks. Someday it will happen. I promise.

♦ It felt weird not having to get the new Season 13 Locations done by the end of August for VanCon. With them moving the con to October, it's given me more time, which has been a blessing and a curse. lol

I probably didn't start on Season 13 as soon as I should have (nothing new there), but at the moment, even though I have nothing to show for my progress on the comm, I'm not worried about where I'm at either. Only a little over a month until VanCon? No problem! LOL

♦ That being said...here's where I'm at with the Season 13 Locations.

- I've capped Locations for Eps 13x01 through 13x18. Only 5 eps to go! I should have those done in another day or 2.
- I nearly have all the Twitter info. about filming S13 added to my LJ's sticky post.

♦ So what is left to do?

- Sort/Delete process for each episode's Location Caps.
- Fix each episode's Location caps and upload to SlickPic.
- Start making the list of Locations, adding in exact addresses, possibly map images to the comm.
- Add all locations to Google Maps.

Easy to do in 4 weeks, right? :P

Finally finished restoring the image links to all the caps for the three Season 6 posts.
You can find them all listed HERE, on the Master Post.

That means only the three Season 7 posts are left to do! Yay!

After discovering the disruption caused to this comm by Photobucket terminating 3rd Party Hosting, I had a lot of thinking to do.

I did manage to download all the Season 1-7 Location Caps from one of my Photobucket accounts. Realizing they were mostly png files, I then converted them all to jpegs to save on file space. Then they were uploaded to SlickPic where the Location Caps for Seasons 8-11 already reside.

The other night I decided to try and begin replacing all the cap links for the first half of Season 1. It really didn't take too long and I deleted all the old links for Google Maps and Google Street Views since I haven't replaced those onto SlickPic yet. For now it's all I can do to to replace the caps. Anyway, I just finished doing the same thing to the last half of Season 1. So now Season 1 is back with all it's caps intact. I've also changed all the opening text to explain this situation and what I've done. It's not a perfect solution and I wish I could properly overhaul the Season 1 posts like they need, but there simply isn't time right now.

I'm sure you're wondering if I could get any help with this. Afraid not.
Since I'm the only one with access to the LJ posts and access to the links to the caps on SlickPic, it's a task only I can do. If I were to give the links over to someone else it would take as long as simply doing it all myself.

I'll see what I can do about restoring the Location Caps to the posts for Seasons 2-7, but of course, I'm still trying to get Season 12 capped and posts made, etc. before VanCon next month. It's going to be a very tight deadline as far behind as I am.

I ask for your patience this month as I try to get everything done. I know many of you are preparing for VanCon and for looking up locations while you're there and I don't want to let you down. Remember, I will also be looking for locations myself while I'm in town, so there's yet another reason to get all this work completed in time.

My goal at the moment is to hopefully have everything updated on this comm by the end of Friday, August 4th.

It's been nearly a month since I posted about needing volunteers to update this comm and I still haven't found any. Giving this one more try, since I've only got a little over 2 and half months to get this site updated and ready for VanCon in August.

I basically just need someone(s) to help me gather locations by area. Some of the lists (like the one for Vancouver and North Vancouver) are basically done. Other area lists need a bit more work. And then there's the lists for locations the production frequently uses, such as Riverview, The Back 40 Dog Park, and the Watchmen backlot set. Again, most of these lists have already been started, so you wouldn't be starting from scratch.

I really want to get these Area Lists done this year so that I and my fellow Location Hunters can use them when visiting the city of Vancouver in August. We don't need lists of locations by Season - the Area ones are the ones that are more useful.

So a lot of the work will be looking for all the locations from the Season Pages here at the comm from a certain city and copy & pasting them into a new list/post. Simple stuff really, but it does take time, which is why I need volunteers to help out.

I hope my SPN Family can help me.

VanCon will be here before too long, and it's time once again to update the Locations info. here for the newest season of Supernatural.

Sadly, yet again, I haven't been able to do a total overhaul of all the seasons locations - something I've been wanting to do for the past few years. Real life just keeps interfering...along with the new wrinkle of me adjusting to a new internet provider and limited data usage since November of last year.

So while I didn't work on updating the locations for most of the year, I did start gathering information and the screencaps of locations for Season 11 much earlier than I have in years past. I feel that's put me in a much better position than in the past and hopefully I won't be scrambling down to the wire before VanCon, trying to get things done.

Another change is that I'm working on the Locations List totally solo this year. It's not that I haven't needed help, just that this is often a difficult project to have other people help out with. So much of the work on this comm can only be done by me because I have the episodes to cap from, have gathered the locations info. from Twitter, etc. Plus, my past volunteers haven't been available lately, which again, this time hasn't been that big of a deal. I would like to get volunteers to help me out in the future though...once I figure out what tasks they can do.

Anyway, I have all the Season 11 episodes capped for locations and the caps uploaded online and ready to go.
Normally, I work on the posts here on the comm, keeping them private until it's time for the big unveiling about a week before VanCon at the end of August.

However, I'm considering a different approach this year.

Perhaps it's better to make the posts public right away so that people can view them as I add-in information?
That way at least some info. and caps will be available right away for people who might head off to Vancouver early and want to start location hunting. This would also include, of course, adding Season 11 locations to the Google Maps I have set up. However, the downloadable PDFs for Season 11 wouldn't be available until all the info. for the season has been posted.

Thought I'd put up a poll to find out how everyone feels about this idea.

I want to thank you all for sticking around and using the information here. It's always great to know that the list is useful to people whether they're simply curious where a certain scene was filmed or are hunting down locations while they visit the Vancouver area.

I'm currently at work on the locations for Season 10 and as usual, I hope to have them all added in by the end of August and VanCon weekend. There's also work being done to make new posts based on location instead of seasons, which is one of the major upgrades I've been trying to implement. I've stated before that I want to have 2 Location Lists: one for information only and one for hunting down the actual locations. Hopefully we'll start to see these changes by August. :)

First, my plans for overhauling this comm were thwarted by real life situations.
Then, I couldn't even update Seasons 1-8.

In the end, I decided to concentrate on adding Season 9 locations and I'm happy to say they are done...for the most part.

Here's what you need to know:

• All the posts here for Seasons 1-8 are the same as they were last year. This includes Seasons 1-7 which haven't been updated since 2012.
  
  
• I began updating Part 1 of Season 1, but I didn't quite finish. It has now been returned to it's original state so there wouldn't be any confusion with it not matching up with the Google Maps.
  
  
• I'll be posting the locations for Season 9 shortly. Everything is there except for Google Street View images. Sorry.
  
  
• I still need to add the Season 9 locations to the Google Maps. I'll let you know when they're done (hopefully by the end of Sunday).
  
  
• PDF files of the Season 9 locations will also be posted soon.
  

The plan is to still overhaul the comm and list completely by August 2015.
